The book
‘ A Walk Across The Sun’ written
by Corban Addison speaks enough about human trafficking which of children
especially girls are big part.
In this book the author have told us about
the sisters Ahalya Ghai and sita who have left orphaned and homeless when
tsunami strikes their village taking their family along. When they
start their journey towards their school to expect the shelter they
unfortunately come across human traffickers who trade them to Mumbai in red
light area kamathipura. Thus both sisters are thrust into a hidden world of
illicit commerce where the most valuable prize is the innocence of a child.
In
human trafficking they are often used to trade drugs within and outside
country. Human trafficking is a hidden crime and often exact statistics are not
available. According to study of National Crime Records Bureau one child at
every eight minute gets disappear. Approximately
75% to 80% of human trafficking is for
sex. The children are also trafficked for organ harvesting.
Children are often sold by their own family
members. The book ‘ wise and otherwise’ by Sudha Murthy have mentioned one
incident where a girl gets soled to brothel by her own younger brother. 10 year
old named gita got sold by her own aunt. The younger are kids the more money
traffickers make. Human traffickers can make 20 times more which they have paid
while buying them.
A 2003 study in India
found that on average single sex slave earned her pimp at least 2,50,000 rupees
a year. Researcher estimate that more than 80%
trafficking victims are female. Over 50% of human trafficking are
children. In India children are traded within and outside the country to Nepal and Bangladesh. There are estimated 13
million children around the world who are victims of human trafficking.
